I try to be flexible over the summer with scheduling. It is your responsibility to sign up via my Violin Students Google Calendar for summer lessons.

No-show lessons will still be charged.

Payment:

The monthly fee is due on the first lesson of the month.  The monthly fee is a tuition that covers lessons, group classes, hall/studio rental, any incentives I use, copying costs, and recitals.  Any extra rehearsals that may become necessary are also included in the monthly fee.

This is not a per lesson fee.  It is a payment based on a set number of lessons over a term.  Each month will not necessarily have the same number of lessons, although you are paying the same amount each month.

My preferred payment choice is Venmo (@Lauri-Driggs), but you may have a check sent to my home through bill pay services that most banks provide.

Lessons:

Attendance at lessons is mandatory.  My schedule is now very full and rescheduling lessons is problematic.  With the exception of genuine emergencies, please plan on attending lessons at your scheduled time.  Lessons in combination with daily practice will produce progress for your student.

Parents will take careful notes during the lessons and follow through with practice daily.

(One additional note: please have your child’s hands washed and fingernails clipped before the lesson.  Thanks!)

Practice:

I ask that the student practice 6 days a week, with a small, informal recital for family members on Sunday.  Without adequate practice and preparation, I become discouraged and so will your student. I am big on establishing the “practicing habit”.  Rather than set a specific amount of time each day, I prefer that you do not miss a day.   Especially with younger students (10 and under) please recognize the commitment you are making to daily practice.  Your cheerful involvement in practice sessions is a must.

That being said, anything under 20 minutes per day should be considered ‘status quo’ practicing.  If you want to see steady improvement, more time should be devoted.

Gentle reminder:  Please don’t mention in the lesson how terrible practicing is going at home. Call me another time.  The child’s performance will usually reveal the results of the practice, but sometimes miracles happen!   Let your child make his/her lesson according to their current ability.

Practice with focus daily!  There is no other way.

Summer Sessions:

June through August will be the studio summer session. Group classes are paused and attendance at music camps is strongly encouraged. There are many excellent camps in our area.

Summer session is a pay-per-lesson payment.

At least 5 lessons over the summer months should be scheduled to secure your spot in the studio for Fall.

Group Lessons:

Once a month we will have group lessons in place of the private lessons for one week.  These classes are highly motivating to the students.  They have a chance to meet and play with other violin students and develop performance skills.

Often I will introduce enrichment activities in group classes that I do not take time for in the private lessons.  This class is a regular and necessary part of your child’s training.  There are many advantages to group classes but one of the most important is that over time group classes produce a generation of performers who play for others with more confidence, ease, and enjoyment.

Missed Lessons:

Out of courtesy, students should notify me of any absence for any reason.  If I am notified within 24 hours of the lesson that will be missed, I will try to schedule a make-up lesson for you when I have an opening within two months of the missed lesson.  Without the 24 hour notice, no make-up will be scheduled and no refund given.  This is a protection to me and motivation to you to stay on a regular schedule.

If you choose or need to miss a lesson for some reason, you have the option of changing lesson times with another student to avoid forfeiting the lesson fee, however, YOU must do the rearranging.  I will make my student roster available to all parents for that reason.  Please notify me when you make a swap.

If I have to miss a lesson for any reason, a make-up time will be offered.

No more than one make-up per month will be offered.

Household Etiquette:

For those who will be taking their lessons in my home, please remember to stay in the lesson area.  During snowy weather please remove your shoes.

Please remember that while siblings are very welcome to watch lessons quietly, if they become a distraction to the student they should be taken out of the room.  Quiet, non-disruptive activities for visiting siblings are welcome.

Cell Phone Etiquette:

Electronic devices are welcome in the studio for note-taking and scheduling reminders.  Please do not respond to calls or texts for the duration of the lesson if it is not an emergency.
